National Leader of the Christian Heritage Party of Canada

Who Will Stand Up for Me?

Good Evening ladies and gentlemen. It is a great privilege to be able to gather together and to speak freely together about things that concern our nation, our children and our future. It is a great privilege to have Dr. Chris Kempling with us tonight. We also appreciate the musicians and singers who have taken the time to bless us with strengthening and encouraging song.

Psalms 94:16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

Psalms 94:17 Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

Each of us faces the temptation of dwelling in silence, of turning a blind eye to the forces within our culture that are destroying our foundations. Without wisdom and strength from God Himself we could feel helpless and alone.

Ezekiel 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.

Let us make a covenant with God and a commitment to Him that He will not say this about Canada, that He will not say this about us.

God is looking for men and women who will stand up for Him in the midst of a confused society. It is easy to feel alone. We see our institutions and moral values under attack. The prophet Elijah expressed that discouragement as he complained to God. He felt utterly alone.

1 Kings 19:14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

God’s answer to him was this: 1 Kings 19:18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

In our communities across Canada there are many men and women of faith who walk before the Lord in the land of the living, citizens of Canada and citizens of the kingdom of God, salt and light in their communities. God wants us to recognize that we are not alone, to recognize those who are blowing the trumpet and those who are carrying the banner.

Dr. Kempling is one such a man. He is a man who has chosen conviction over compromise. He has sacrificed his time, money and reputation to be a faithful witness to this generation. He has put his career on the line to declare the truth that alone can set men free.

Dr Kempling serves as a counselor and therapist in Quesnel, British Columbia. He has faced very stiff attacks for his willingness to speak the truth. Christian Heritage Party leader Ron Gray has dubbed him “our canary in a coal mine”. Most of you know that canaries were sent into mine shafts ahead of the miners to detect the presence of poisonous and explosive gases. If the canary dropped dead, the miners didn’t go in. We don’t want Dr Kempling to be crushed by the opposition. We rather want to support him so that he is NOT crushed, and by so doing, to find our own voices, to find that we are NOT alone after all and to join him in speaking words of hope and encouragement to our confused society and to help our children build a secure future for Canada on the foundation of principles which cannot be shaken.

Now, just before Dr. Kempling comes to speak with us, Lisa, Kim and Jon will bless us with “A Song for Canada.”

I have heard about a movie that was made of a herd of cows breaking down a barbed wire fence to get into a greener pasture. There was one leader who was pushing on the fence. As the herd pressed in behind, the leader became a sort of battering ram. All the pain, the risks, the cuts of the barbed wire were absorbed by the one cow in front, whose expression changed from one of hungry anticipation to sheer panic and desperation for a few moments before the old fence came down.

Dr. Kempling is one among us who has been willing to face the barbed wire. He has been willing to stand alone but it is our great privilege to get behind him and push. The things for which he is contending, freedom of speech and sound moral values, are too important for us to ignore. His willingness to face down his attackers should inspire and encourage all of us to do everything we can to help him.
